The village of Westhampton Beach has catered to families since it was incorporated in 1928. Only 75 miles east of Manhattan, it is the first of the Hamptons on the Long Island Railroad's eastward track and is also the first community on the East End with easy access to both the bays and the Atlantic Ocean.
Originally founded as Beaver Dam (way back when), the community has grown to a year-round population of about 1,800 people to about 30,000 people during the summer season.
The town's main street is a combination of local merchants, seasonal stores, and charming restaurants creating a more laid-back & seasonal atmosphere when compared to other East End communities making it the perfect vacation spot for families.
Anchoring Main Street is the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, a year-round, community-based arts organization. Founded in 1997, it is a vibrant venue having hosted the likes of Steve Nash and other celebrated artists catering to people of all ages.
Nestled at the other end of Main Street is the seasonal Westhampton Beach Farmer's Market which hosts 60+ vendors, growers and producers providing locally grown, caught, and homemade items. The Farmers Market runs every Saturday from the Spring through the Fall providing you the perfect opportunity to savor the ever changing flavors of the East End.
If you want to avoid the Friday/Sunday crowds and flying private is more your style there is an airport and military base (Francis Gabreski) located on the outskirt of town. Driving by you can count the military or private jets or you may even stumble upon Air Force One.
